Rock and (expletive) roll — that’s what T.J. Miller is all about.

However, one is never quite sure what to expect from the stand-up comedian.

Take, for instance, our recent phone conversation with him.

“I’m in my Salt Lake City hotel room completely nude,” he said. “But here’s the thing: It’s just my arms … and neck; everything else is covered.

“My limbs are nude — I guess that’s what we call it. I’m wearing a ski mask, leather vest and full snow pants.”

None of this should come as a surprise to fans who have paid close attention to the comic’s absurdist personality. His free-flowing spirit fuels memorable film and television roles in “Deadpool,” “Deadpool 2,” “Office Christmas Party” and “Silicon Valley.”

However, this improvisational comedian — capable of saying and doing anything at any time — has a heart.

He’ll perform Sept. 1 through 3 at Hilarities 4th Street Theatre in Cleveland.

Miller’s connections to Northeast Ohio include the fact his mother is from Shaker Heights. As a kid, he has memories of visiting area museums while in town seeing his grandmother.

“I just have a real love for Ohio — not just because it’s my mother’s hometown,” he said. “I just like the people. Cleveland is really where it’s at. Audiences are great. They’re sort of Midwestern, so they have those values, but they are smart, well-educated and really urban.

“That’s my demo. I love Milwaukee, but there’s not as much culture there as in Cleveland, obviously. And Hilarities is really a theater, not a comedy club.”

After releasing his most recent special, “Dear Jonah,” a year ago on YouTube, Miller is on his “The Gentle Giant Tour.”

“I’m talking about me and the time I accidentally did heroin, the time I accidentally did cocaine and the time I purposely drank alcohol,” he said. “It’s a lot of personal stories about my marriage, my childhood — all mixed with improvisation.

“So you get to see a more personal side of T.J., but I’m also improvising. Each show is going to be completely different.”

Let’s just hope there’s no accidental drug use at Hilarities.

“I hope not,” he laughed.

“The only drug use that’s available in Cleveland is rock and (expletive) roll, man.”
