Katie Holmes' big pivot to New York menswearhead

For many women, Katie Holmes is That Girl. She trots around having what seems to be a very nice time in very nice clothes, and thus, the Hollywood-to-everywhere-else pipeline runneth fast and quick. And so it is as it has always been.

But instead of doing quiet luxury before quiet luxury was ever a thing on TikTok or Twitter (hint: it was around long before Succession), Holmes was photographed in NYC dressed not like every cool New York woman, but dressed like the cool men said New York women are married to. That meant a pair of baggy Alo yoga sweatpants, rolled up and under themselves, a graphic tee and simple black Adidas Samba sneaks, and socks with the Adi Trefoil (no mixing Nike and Adidas here, thank you very much).

Sure, there wasn't much to it. That's kind've the point in this cosy boy max comfort era. It was the sort of fit that would make it onto the Sporty & Rich moodboard. She was probably just getting her caffeine fix down at Coffee Project. But she looked sick – and it was part of a wider movement in which Very Famous Women are having pretty menswear-y summers (Jennifer Lawrence and Taylor Swift are but two of them).

The entire fit was also a reflection of the way that all cool guys are dressing right now. She's a menswearhead. Sambas have become the It sneaker for well-dressed men in New York and London, and Holmes, with the same sort of shruggy coolness that made her a big style icon in the first place, just gave the perennial shoe another endorsement. Her outfit was in keeping with the way that Austin Butler – baggy sweats, Sambas and Carhartt jackets – and Jacob Elordi dress. Timothée Chalamet getting coffee in a pair of grey marl tracksuit bottoms. Frank Ocean milling around NYC in baggy tees and Sambas.

Holmes is still that girl for the girls. But now, maybe guys should take note, too.
