The Dunmore Central Catholic High School/Bishop O’Hara Class of 1973 will meet at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at VFW Post 6082, 123 Electric St., Peckville, to discuss its 50th reunion planned for this fall.

All classmates are invited. Family and friends of the Class of 1973 are asked to help the committee update its class list information.

Valley View Class of 1976 will hold its 65th Birthday Celebration at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2 at AC Field, Archbald. Cost: $30 per person. BYOB. There will be no mailing of announcements; please pass on the information to anyone in the Class of 1976. Contact Joann Merli at [email protected] regarding reservations and payment.

The Forest City Class of 1976 is turning 65 this year and celebrating with a “birthday bash” at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9. For information on the location and to make a reservation, contact classmate Juliann Nagoda Doyle at 570-499-4908 or [email protected].

Bishop O’Hara/Dunmore Central Catholic High School’s Class of 1973 will celebrate its 50-year reunion in November. They are seeking contact information for all classmates, friends and family of the Class of 1973. Call or text Lauren Telep at 646-241-9443 with classmates’ mailing addresses and other information. Invitations will be sent in September.

Sacred Heart of Jesus Church hosts a food giveaway from 1 to 2 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month. Upcoming dates are Aug. 9, Sept. 13 and Oct. 11. Giveaways are sponsored by Friends of the Poor and take place in the attached Holy Family Hall, 1101 Willow St., Peckville.

All Saints Orthodox Church, 211 Willow Ave., Olyphant, offers a frozen pierogi sale from 9 to 11 a.m. every Friday and 10:30 a.m. to noon every Sunday in the basement of the church.

Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish is sponsoring a bus trip to Army vs. Boston College football game at West point Military Academy on Saturday, Oct. 7. Includes game ticket, bus ride and lunch. Cost is $120 per person; a deposit of $60 is due at the time of reservation, and the balance is due by Sept. 14. The First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale will hold a rummage sale every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday throughout the summer. Donations are accepted.

Trinity Episcopal Church, 58 River St., Carbondale, is looking for musicians who can play an acoustic instrument and would be interested in playing in a monthly folk music service. For information, call 570-282-3620 or email [email protected]. The church is also is holding its summer raffle with a drawing at noon on Sept. 10. Tickets are $5 per sheet of 25; buy five sheets and get one free. Tickets are available from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday in the church office. They can also be mailed. Some of the prizes are a 50” television, $50 lottery tickets, $100 and $50 in cash and more. You do not need to be present to win. All proceeds go to the church. For information, call 570-282-3620.

Christ Episcopal Church, Dundaff and Delaware streets, Forest City, holds healing services at 9 a.m. on the first Sunday of each month throughout the summer. Fr. William McGinty offers thoughtful heartfelt prayers and blesses individuals with sacred oil. The church also hosts its community meals from noon to 1 p.m. the third Saturday of every month until winter. All are welcome.

Eureka Hose Company No. 4, 717 E. Grant St., Olyphant, is conducting its annual envelope drive in August. Donation materials are being sent to all residents, commercial establishments and industrial entities requesting support for the volunteer fire company’s financial needs. In the past year, Eureka has made nearly $60,000 in upgrades to the fire station. Proceeds from the drive will help pay for these investments. Donations made be mailed to the station or dropped at the Olyphant Borough Electric Office.

The Valley Community Library is holding its Summer Apparel Sale through Sept. 1. A variety of designs are offered on items such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, hats and more. Orders can be placed at the library, but a store is available at at lclshome.org/valley with additional items and designs. Orders can be picked up at the library in about 1-2 weeks after they are placed, or shipping is available for a fee.

AUG. 4-5

Dickson City Days: Bernard Seminski Park, Elm Street, Dickson City. No admission fee. A family friendly event supporting several nonprofit organizations in the borough. Features a basket raffle, a duck race at 3 p.m. Saturday, music, fireworks display at dusk on Saturday, clams, potato pancakes, fried dough, and a beer tent.

AUG. 4-6

Holy Ghost Church Rummage Sale: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Holy Ghost Hall at LaSalle Academy, 309 First Ave., Jessup. Features baked goods, food sale and basket raffles.

AUG. 5

Annual chicken barbecue: noon to 3 p.m., Throop Hose Company No. 1, 512 Center St., Throop. Take-outs only. Cost: $12 donation. Tickets are available from all members or by calling Dave Benson at 570-383-1019. All members and auxiliary members are asked to bake. Bake goods can be dropped off at the Hose Co. Hall on the morning of Aug. 5.

Healing Summer Vibes wellness event: 1 to 4:30 p.m., Aylesworth Park, Jermyn. Presented by the Greater Scranton YMCA in partnership with Ski Shack. Mayfield Lions Club Annual Concert in the Park: 6 to 8 p.m., Mayfield Memorial Park, Lackawanna Avenue, Mayfield. Featuring Johnny Stevens and Double Shot. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Complimentary hot dogs and sodas will be provided. In the case on inclement weather, the concert will be held in St. John’s Center, Hill Street, Mayfield.

The Forest City Area Historical Society meeting: 6 p.m., society headquarters, Dundaff and Main streets, Forest City. The FCAHS is accepting membership applications for 2024. It encompasses the communities of Browndale, Forest City, Richmondale, Vandling and the surrounding areas. Various membership options are available. St. James-St. George Episcopal Church’s annual yard sale: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors are needed; $10 per space (bring your own table). Call Gloria at 570-876-3978 to reserve a spot. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish yard sale: 8 a.m. to noon, 624 Madison Ave., Jermyn, outdoors and inside the church basement. Local delivery (Mayfield and Jermyn) will be available.

Community luncheon: Noon to 1 p.m., Christ Episcopal Church, Delaware and Dundaff Streets, Forest City. All are welcome.

Free Children’s Party: 1 to 3 p.m., American Legion, 508 Church St. Jessup. Hosted by the Jessup Auxiliary Unit 411. Children 10 and younger are invited to participate in games with prizes awarded, music, make-your-own ice cream sundaes, pizza and an opportunity to meet Francesca the baby donkey. Annual Jermyn Townwide Yard Sale: 8 a.m. All residents are invited to participate. Sponsored by the Jermyn Shade Tree Commission. No permit required. Items to be on private property with no obstruction to road and sidewalks.

Blessed Sacrament Parish 16th Annual Family Festival: parish grounds and hall, 215 Rebecca St., Throop. A youth Wiffle ball game and other youth competitions will open the festival at 9 a.m. Saturday. A bake sale both and ethnic and traditional picnic faire will be available from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Bingo will be held on Sunday with doors opening at noon. Also features a 50/50, basket raffle and special food menu.

AUG. 25

Ethnic food sale: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., All Saints Church, 210 Willow Ave., Olyphant. Orders requested by Aug. 19; limited quantities available day of sale. Offerings: cabbage and noodles, piggies, clam chowder, B&O pierogi, frozen pierogi, potato pancakes (outside) and bake goods. Ethnic food sale: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church hall, 378 Lyon St., Clifford Twp. (just off 247 by Dundaff corners). Homemade pierogies and halupki will be available for purchase, along with other food items and goodies. There are also many “new” items at the flea market this August.

Pork roast dinner: noon to 5 p.m., Black Diamond Hose Company No. 2, Rock Street Station, Archbald. Take-outs only. Cost: $15.

SEPT. 8
